Hey everybody, welcome back to the podcast.
I'm your host, Dr. Tom Rountry, and I am a DBC doctor.
Today I want to talk about kajabi versus Wicks, which are both hosting and website designed platforms, and ultimately which one I decided to go with.
But first, I wanted to give a shout out to John Vu, who is a podcast listener.
He contacted me on LinkedIn and asked him asked me a great question about a previous podcast that I did concerning income during your DPC startup phase.
He asked, you mentioned working at a methadone clinic as a way to get some income.
Are there remote or telemedicine opportunities?
I would love to see these patients early in the day.
And in fact, there are because I have seen ER doctors who were treating some of my own patients with methadone.
And I actually went and looked them up and asked them, you know, what the schedule of the methadone is, the strength and things like that.
They were working this job in their spare time.
And I've also seen this job advertised on Indeed.com.
Now, I have no affiliation with them, but you can always check out Indeed.com, and it seems it's very easy to apply on there and it get set up.
So anyways, let's get back to discussing Wicks versus kajabi.
Now just a short disclaimer, I am an affiliate with kajabi and I'm going to give you a link to kajabi. Uh down below, but I will never recommend any product or anything else that does not suit my needs with very strict standards.
He used to be a chemical engineer and when I went to medical school and graduated, let's just say I was appalled at the standards themselves.
And recently I sent somebody a dinosaur emoji and told them that they their EMR platform was archaic and that I hope they changed it for to alleviate the suffering of their doctors.
And they replied back, thanks for the honestyback.
So I will never tell you anything without thoroughly researching this software uh in depth.
So let's get into it.
Now, the first thing we're going to discuss is website building.
So when I went to look at Wicks, it was pretty amazing.
Wicks was like, I could drag things around and put them where I wanted, but it just seemed like there was just so much information.
There were too many templates.
And when I went over to Kajabi, it was super straightforward.
It was like, here are the templates that you can use.
There's about four or five of them.
But in Wicks, there was like, I think hundreds and kajabi just laid it straight out and straightforward.
So website building was a really straightforward in kajabi, and it's actually tailored for creating and selling online courses and memberships.
And that was super important for me because I wanted to build these things in order to have some supplemental income on the side.
And so kajabi is actually tailored for knowledge entrepreneurs, like me, like us, like you who is listening because you have really good knowledge as a doctor that you can actually turn around and sell to the public.
And you could sell it for a cheap.
You could sell it for 27 bucks, 19 bucks, 17 bucks, whatever you want to sell it for, but this hosting platform will give you that.
The kajabi platform will give you the ability to actually turn around and say, hey, here is my simple um one of the things I'm working on right now is a resistance training workout program.
Here's a simple one, right?
They just go through it and they do it.
And so it allows you to sell your knowledge . And along those lines, it gives you the ability to create courses, right?
So in Wicks, there were some things that I had to like look at and actually say, okay, I have to go outside of the box of Wicks and add on things to create these courses.
And it actually cost me extra.
And it was kind of odd like adding up the costs and I was like, well, if if I get so many visitors, this is how much going to cost and things like this.
But I went over to, but when I went over to kajabi, it was unlimited video hosting and built in tools for course creation with like no extra fees.
And granted, kajabi does cost a little bit more than Wicks?
But I just like the fact that here is one fee and here is exactly what you get and you don't have to worry about going like over that amount.
And plus, when I called them, the um the people that helped me was they were really nice.
And they do like an onboarding thing where they get you set up with somebody who can answer all of your questions and you get two rounds of this.
So you get two 30 minute like intro things into their program with a live person that actually helps you.
So that was super cool too.
And this person was part of another thing that I wanted to mention, which is they have a kind of a boost level support.
It's kind of like somebody who you check in with once a month or so and they help you get your website and everything and business kind of up and going.
In other words, they're kind of like on your team for a little bit extra month.
I think it's like a hundred dollars a month when I was uh using it before.
And it was super helpful.
They were very friendly and gave me the right answers that I needed.
So what's another thing?
The other thing that you really need when you're starting out is marketing, right?
And marketing tools, wicks and kajabi, they're pretty on par with everything . Um with Wicks, you get email marketing, you get social posts, you get SEO solutions and automations.
And it's all integrated, which is really nice.
The one thing that's a little bit different uh with kajabi is kind of this the what's called a funnel.
So a funnel was like, hey, you see like on social media, you see somebody saying, hey, here's my um clinic.
It's a DPZ clinic and I offer a in-house pharmacy click here to get the link to my pharmacy pricing.
And so you start at the top of the funnel on the top of the funnel, social media, then the next section is where you go and actually click on to downloads pharmacy prices, right?
So you download the medication pricing or maybe the lab pricing, but you have to put in your email.
And so now part of the funnel is collecting emails.
And so they put in those emails and now they get it they get a return email to them that says, hey, I saw you were interested in our clinic.
Would you like to set up a live introduction?
Or you say, hey, here's my DPC clinic.
Here are the benefits that are offers that are vastly different and a lot better than insurance-based practices.
So that's kind of a funnel.
And then finally they end up subscribing to your membership.
So they started on you started social media.
They went to your website.
They downloaded something that was important to them.
And in return, they gave you their email and then finally, you gave them an introduction via email and maybe a video or something.
And then finally they set up a plan to come in and see you and now became a member.
So that's a funnel. Um And that's built into kajabi, which is really nice.
Along those lines of things being built in, there aren't many third partyy integrations that you need with kajabi.
The only major one that I use is called Kaland Lee, CAL, ENDY dot com.
And that one I use because it allows me to have some schedule their first visit and that way they can can um it's just automated.
So like they schedule it.
I get a notice that says, oh, this person scheduled a first visit, uh via Cowley and they can do that all on my website.
And I'm pretty sure Kajabi is going to come out with that like probably this year because they have other things that allow people to schedule.
Like, for instance, coaching, you can schedule coaching on kajabi and so if let's say your lifestyle medicine and you're like, for some reason you don't want to use a EMR, well, you can get people signed up and then they can actually uh just schedule visits and things like that. And um you can actually document everything in the coach's area on kajabi.
So that's actually there already.
Now, if you're actually wanting to learn things about your website, kajabi has you covered there.
They actually have kajabi University training, and this is from actual high level uh business entrepreneurs, which you can go to their website and see them, but they've done training in uh kajabi.
So they will teach you things that are very important to you.
So for instance, like how to actually build a funnel, how to create an email list, how to build a community or online course.
And these are by people that have made millions of dollars already.
So likely what they've done is trade kajabi. So they probably never had to pay for their kajabi website again.
And kajabi just made them a deal where they train you through their kajabi university.
And that's all free.
Like you don't have to pay for it.
It's it's actually on there.
So it works significantly well, and these guys know what exactly what they're talking about.
And these include people like uh Graham Cochran.
It's one of them.
Another one is John Moran.
And these courses are like, you know, three hours long, two hours long, uh 45 minutes long, but they really give you the nitty gritty from the people who actually have grown courses and websites themselves.
Also, if you're interested, a previous podcast I did was called marketing your practice online.
And in that I kind of go over what you need to do.
So it's a little course itself.
It's about 10 minutes so you can check that out after this podcast.
So what do I actually use kajabi for?
Well, I use it to host my website, uh collect emails and contact information from new patients.
I also use it to host my podcast setup.
I publish a newsletter that people can join as well.
I also have uh like examples of videos for courses that I have. Um If you go to dreamDpc.com, you can see examples of these right now.
And you'll see uh on dreamDpc.com.
You actually see where you can have a little bit of a webinar taste.
And in that webinar, I discuss, hey, what are the what's the foundational knowledge?
What's practical marketing?
How do you calculate actual income?
And then some website design uh basics.
And this is completely free.
And again, I just say, hey, what's your name and email?
And then that's it.
And so you get access to that webinar there.
And I didn't have to add anything.
This is directly on kajabi itself.
So I highly, highly suggest that you check out kajabi and one way you can do that is through my affiliate link.
Normally, you only get access to 14 days of kajabi when you sign up, but my link has 30 days.
So if you use that, you'll get an extra, what is that?
Sixteen days or so to practice and play roundw with kajabi before the actual pricing uh subscription kicks in.
Now, what about pricing, speaking of, of Wicks versus Gajabi?
So the first level of pricing on Wicks is $17 per month.
And this is like absolute basic website.
If you owned a restaurant and you just opened up a restaurant, like or a coffee shop, I would say, this is for you. Or maybe maybe you owned a um you a photographer.
And that was kind of it, right?
And you had your email listed on there and your phone number lists on there.
I would say, that's all you need.
But um to access advanced features like e-commerce and memberships or analytics, you have to upgrade. That's on Wicks.
Onajabi, they have $ fifty five dollars a month right now, and that price is a little bit higher, but you have all of these integrated features that come with it, like forms, uh unlimited landing pages.
Like let's say you're just opening up.
You can create a whole separate webpage for people just to sign up.
And then that's it.
So let's say you're walking around with your phone and you just have that page open on your phone.
Well, it will only have that box for them to sign up.
It kind of like forces them to sign up and not search around on your website.
In other words, it's like, hey, this is what you're going to do right now because it's actually what you want to do.
You don't want to get distracted by all these other things on my normal website.
This is a landing page that offers something right up front that is not distracting and gets done what you need done.
So kajabi offers a pretty sure unlimited of those uh just for this one price a month.
So that's why I went with them is that they were, I mean, seriously transparent and just ultimately clear about what they offer and what you can um do with them for that price point.
So I know this this uh website, this podcast was a little bit longer than usual, but I really wanted to go over kajabi versus Wicks and really let you understand that kajabi is actually built for doctors and knowledge workers who are looking to open their own business.
So if you like that, give me a nice reading on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, and I'm really looking forward to speaking with you next time.
If you have any questions, hit me up on social media or LinkedIn.
Send me a message there and let me know what you would like me to cover.
Until then, keep dreaming and keep building.
